Our Story
Crane Johnson Lumber is a leading supplier of lumber and building materials to contractors in the Dakotas, Minnesota, and surrounding areas.

Founded in 1883 in Cooperstown, North Dakota, Crane Johnson Lumber has evolved from a single lumberyard serving a rural market into a multi-faceted company encompassing several divisions with headquarters in Fargo, North Dakota. Additional locations are in Mayville, North Dakota as well as, Perham and Detroit Lakes, Minnesota.

Located on 10 acres at the intersection of Main Avenue and Interstate 29, the Fargo location is home to our primary lumberyard and serves as a distribution facility for our branch locations. In 1965 Crane Johnson established its truss manufacturing subsidiary, Mid States Truss, on the site through which we produce quality roof and floor trusses using Mitek engineering.
In 2022 Crane Johnson came under new ownership and is now an employee-owned company.
